Commissioner Karachi called a meeting to review the outbreak of dengue in the city . The meeting also reviewed the issue of excess stray dogs in the city and rising number of rabbies deaths in the province . The meeting co chaired by the Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani and Secretary Health Saeed Awan, issued high alert to the concerned departments and hospitals and assigned the special duties to the deputy commissioners to play their role by carrying out coordination with the concerned department to provide support to them in carrying out their efforts effective to check the spread of dengue cases .
The meeting decided that all deputy commissioners will undertake immediate actions making all stake holders active and concerned. It was decided that all the relevant departments including the Health department, Programme Manager of Dengue control programme, KMC, DMCs and Cantonment Boards would make all out efforts for taking preventive measures and ensure those suffered the dengue desease get better treatment and facilities. It was decided that all deputy commissioners would form teams for taking preventive measures Awareness campaign would also be necessary part of the steps to be taken.
Builders and tyre shops those causing and creating the breeding points are watched and are stopped them.The deputy commissioners’ teams would pursue the builders, tyre shop owners and others to ensure water is not stagnant at their places of work. Mass awareness campaign would be under taken by the health departments of sindh government, KMC and all local body organizations.
At the same time meeting also took the notice of reports showing the rising number of stray dogs in the city and the Dog bite cases being reported in the province. The meting decided that dog bite issues will be addressed on priority bases .The meeting also decided to avoiding the method of poising to stray dogs instead of poising they would be vaccinated so as to they (stray dogs) are gradually eradicated and issue of rising of stray dogs could be resolved on permanent bases.
