Moderate to heavy rain lashed the provincial metropolis Friday morning, leaving roads and residential areas inundated and caused power disruptions in various areas.
An imam Masjid was electrocuted and 10 persons injured in separate rain-related incidents in different areas.
According to the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), heaviest rainfall of 135 millimeters was recorded at Pani Wala Talab area of the city, followed by 132mm recorded at Farrukhabad, 100mm at Wasa head office, 131mm at Lakshmi Chowk, 75mm at Nishter Town, Johar Town 95mm and Tajpur 90mm.
Heavy rain also lashed Kot Lakhpat, Green Town, Township, Johar Town, Model Town, Kalma Chowk, Liberty, Barkat Market, Orphanage and Karim Block.
Similarly, it rained for several hours around Muslim Town, Ichhra, Mozang, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Jail Road, Gulberg, Defense and Seven Up Stop area.
Wasa Managing Director Zahid Aziz said they will remain in the field until the process of water drainage is not completed. He said all disposal stations under the administrative control of Wasa are operational.
A private bank building collapsed near Chauburji, in which 10 persons were injured. According to police and Rescue 1122, the roof of the bank collapsed due to bursting of Sui gas pipe.
On the other hand, imam of Babliana Madrassa in Raiwand area was electrocuted. The imam of the mosque was electrocuted while pouring mud on the roof of the mosque.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar directed the WASA and local administration to immediately dispose of rainwater from the low-lying areas of Lahore. He instructed them to utilise all resources at their disposal to ensure immediate drainage of accumulated rainwater. The Met Department has predicted that more rain is expected in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the next three days.
LESCO’S 130 FEEDERS TRIPPED
Heavy rain left as many as 130 feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) tripped and deprived many areas of electricity.
According to Lesco officials, Bhatta chowk, Ary bazaar, Nashat Colony, Saddr, Mughalpura, Mozang, Abid market, Shadbagh, Badami Bagh, Shahdara, Karim park, Begum Kot, Bilal Ganj, Sheranwala, Bhatti Gate, Shah Alam market, Gujjarpura, and Shadipura remained deprived of electricity. Lesco teams continued work to repair the faulty lines and restore power supply.
