A seven-year-old hearing and speech-impaired girl was raped, the police said.
The police quoted mother of the victim as saying that on Friday, the child went out to play at 1pm when a man from the neighbourhood abducted her. He took her to an abandoned house and raped her, according to the investigating officer.
They said the suspect has been arrested and is being questioned, adding that his DNA samples have been obtained as well.
A case has been registered at the Hafizabad City police station under Section 376ii [When rape is committed by two or more persons in furtherance of the common intention of all, each of such persons shall be punished with death or imprisonment for life] of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The Punjab IG Police has taken notice of the crime and has summoned a detailed report from the district police officer. The seven-year-old’s mother has demands public hanging of the perpetrator.
Meanwhile, a constable was arrested for assaulting and harassing a woman for cutting trees in Sahiwal.
A video clip showed the man slapping and punching the woman repeatedly after they got into an argument.
The victim was cutting some trees for wood when the constable came and started screaming at her, according to witnesses.
The district police officer has taken notice of the assault and has suspended the constable. Saddar DSP Farukh Javaid has been instructed to probe the crime.
