In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the High Court has quashed the illegal detention of a student booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA).
The student, Saliq Ahmed Butt, a resident of Gagren area of Shopian district, is presently lodged in central jail Agra in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested by the Indian police in Shopian last year on the false charges of stone-pelting.
Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak argued that the detaining authority has not attributed any specific allegation against the detainee. He contended that the detainee was arrested in old cases and on fake charges of stone-pelting. The court of Justice Sanjay Dhar quashed his detention and ordered his release from the Agra jail.—KMS
