Hamdard University is not only upholding higher education standards at par with the world’s recognized universities, it is also constantly adhering to the rich values enshrined by Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said.
These views were expressed by Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed while addressing as chief guest the 16th degree-awarding ceremony of Hamdard University at the Jinnah Convention here Tuesday. Chancellor of the HU, Sadia Rashid, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Shabibul Hasan, senior faculty members and passing out students’ representatives also addressed the ceremony. One could see a large number of passing out students, their parents, students of various departments and eminent educationists attending the convocation.
A total of 988 students were awarded degrees. Of them, 170 received their degrees in Management Sciences, 335 in Engineering Science and Technology, 483 in Faculty of Pharmacy (61 in M.Phil Pharmacy practice alone). While congratulating the passing out students, Dr Mukhtar said it was indeed a moment of pride and fulfillment not only for them but for their parents as well. He wished them best for future endeavors and advised them to move with optimism and confidence. “We must remember the remarkable dedication and efforts of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, a renowned scholar, a writer, an intellectual, innovator, social entrepreneur, founder of Library association of Pakistan and a philanthropist,” he said.
Hamdard Foundation has incentivized our children and youth in a number of activities which has fostered the culture of peace, progress and prosperity, he said quoting Hakim Mohammed Said “An illiterate nation can never hold its head high.”
Chancellor HU Sadia Rashid said it was an important day particularly for the new graduates and their parents and guardians also who invested significant care and made sacrifices to bring you all to this significant milestone of success. Not far behind them are the teachers, who have generously and diligently imparted their knowledge.
She asked the passing out students to acknowledge the indebtedness we owe to all those who have played significant or minor roles in helping us reach this pinnacle of success. In a world (and undoubtedly a country) where many individuals do not even receive a primary education, you are fortunate enough to belong to that minute minority who have successfully completed higher education.
Take inspiration from the humble beginnings of the esteemed founders of Hamdard—Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed and his son, Hakim Mohammed Said, she said. “Through their unwavering determination to work and serve Allah and His creations, they achieved remarkable heights. She said that “It is natural to feel nervous on such an important occasion but let us not succumb to fear. Instead, let us have faith—in ourselves, in our training, and in Allah. If we remain honest and diligent in our efforts, success will come our way,” said the Chancellor HU ending her address on the note.
