Overwhelmed with guilt of being involved in cold-blooded killings and rape of women and other forms of rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has led to upward trend of suicides among Indian soldiers and officers.
534 Indian troops have taken their lives in the occupied territory since Jan 2007 till date, according to a report compiled by Kashmir Media Service.
On average, one Indian soldier commits suicide in every 3 days.
Overall, as many as 1100 Indian defense forces’ personnel, as per KMS report, have committed suicide during last one decade in India and IIOJK.
Experts said that rising suicides in Indian army are a manifestation of increasing level of depression and demoralization.
Deployment in conflict zone like Jammu and Kashmir is one of the main reasons behind the upward suicide trend among Indian forces.
Bitter attitude of seniors, experts argue, is also increasing number of suicides in Indian army.
Besides, realization of fighting a futile war in Kashmir is leaving a deep impact on Indian troops’ psyche while Indian military leadership has failed to address issues relating to suicides among its officers and soldiers, they added.
