Govt urged to seek release of Aafia Siddiqui

Aafia Movement Pakistan leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has said that when the so-called war on terror has already been ended and America has left Afghanistan, what is the reason of keeping Dr Aafia Siddiqui in jail and why the government of Pakistan is not seeking her immediate release.

Addressing on the occasion of public signature campaign at Five Star Chowrangi North Nazimabad in connection with the demand of releasing Aafia Siddiqui, Dr Fowzia said that there should be no politics on the issue of Aafia.

She said politicians would find a lot of issues for their politicking and they should raise one voice for the release of the daughter of nation, Dr Aafia.

She said that this is a national issue and both the government and opposition should understand it. She said protests are being held in the US and the UK against detention of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

She said if the government is powerless to seek the release of Dr Aafia it should tell the people about its inability and the people would themselves bring Aafia back home.

She said hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis have already signed the public petition for release of Aafia.

They have also pledged that they are ready for a long march to demand early release of their sister Dr Aafia.

On the occasion, thousands of people put their signatures on a big ‘signature screen’.
Dr Fowzia Siddiqui thanked the masses, political and social organisations and civil society for taking an active part in the signature campaign. She said that the caravan-e-Ghairat would continue.

The political and social parties that took part in the signature campaign included Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamait Ulema e Islam, Aam Log Ittehad Party, Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), Awaz e Pakistan chairman Sheikh Shakeel, Human Rights Council of Pakistan, Joining hands, Karachi Tajir Ittehad, Muslim Students Organisation Sindh, State Youth Parliament Sindh, Muttahida Ulema Ittehad, Hum Hen Shaheen Foundation, Pakistan Muslim League, Social Aid Committee, Ulema Council Karachi, Students Social Fourm, Shafiq Ajmal of Daris Quran.com, Gharib Ittehad Party, Human Rights International Forum, Awaz e Karachi, Islami Jamait Tulba, Muhiban e Karachi, social activist Prof Tanveer Malik, Dr Ayub Abbasi, Shafiq Abbasi, Eng Waseem Farooqui and others.
