MUMBAI –  Bollywood superstar Govind Arjun Ahuja, known as Govinda, was shot at his residence with his own revolver and subsequently admitted to the hospital.

According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning at around 4:45am when the 60-year-old actor and Shiv Sena leader was alone at his Juhu residence.

In an initial statement, the actor’s manager, Shashi Sinha, said, “We had a show in Kolkata and a flight at 6 AM. I had already reached the airport, and Govinda was about to leave when the gun accidentally discharged, hitting his leg.”

According to Shashi Sinha, the licensed revolver fell while being placed in a cupboard and accidentally fired. “It’s by God’s grace that Govinda only sustained an injury to his leg, and the wound is not serious,” he added.

The manager further informed that after a minor surgery at the hospital, the bullet was successfully removed from Govinda’s leg.

In the 2000s, he starred in blockbuster films like Bhagam Bhag (2006), Partner (2007), and Life Partner (2009).

Govinda was immensely popular as a comedy hero during the 1990s. His hit films include Aankhen (1993), Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Deewana Mastana (1997), Dulhe Raja (1998), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Anari No. 1 (1999), and Jodi No. 1 (2001).
