IN an important development, Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to get help from Tiger Force for surveillance and betterment of public services. The Tiger Force will report regarding the prices of essential commodities and health facilities, also keep an eye on markets, educational institutions, excursion places, police stations, kutchery, land record, electricity theft and people’s complaints.
There is no doubt that the Tiger Force played an extraordinary role in identifying the deserving families during Covid-19 and helped them get the cash assistance under Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program. This was the great national service, for which these volunteers need to be recognized and appreciated. Since the Tiger Force comprises the youth belonging to different segments of the society, therefore, their services can be used in bringing improvement in different sectors. At a time when the government is struggling to check the prices of essential commodities, this force can play a pivotal role in identifying both the hoarders and profiteers. Similarly, the youth can be activated to identify the hundreds of thousands of ghost schools across the country so that the necessary action could be taken against the teachers who are drawing their monthly salaries without fail but do not bother to come to schools.
Definitely, in such matters, Tiger Force can play a critical role but having said so their interference in the affairs of different departments may also lead to confusion and brawls. Therefore, these volunteers should be given well defined role in order to avoid the occurrence of an ugly situation. Besides ensuring their safety and security, the volunteers of the Force should also be imparted necessary training which equips them to better deal with any calamity-like situation. Creating different hierarchies of the Force at the community, district and provincial level and mobilizing volunteers based on their specific skills and trainings will also help make a difference.
