The dream of empowering girls and to encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle has led Captain Samreen Khan to launch Girls Cycling Squad (GCS) in the federal capital.
An empowered woman, an enthusiastic cyclist, a mentor, a coach and an athlete “Captain Samreen Khan has been pursuing cycling not as a hobby but a passion and a platform to engage girls in this healthy activity.
Having spent three years in cycling, she has now dedicated herself to this and earned the title of Captain of female squad by the cycling community.
While talking to Pakistan Observer here Friday, Captain Samreen said the dream of empowering girls motivated her to build a platform “Girls Cycling Squad Pakistan” where girls can peddle confidently with freedom.
Inaugurated in the Fatima Jinnah park, F-9 in the presence of a US delegation that visited Pakistan for the exchange program regarding sports for women, GCS has now become a phenomenon getting popularity with young girls with each passing day. “I have members from 5-year to 60-year old age groups and all of they are excited to peddle their stress away by participating in regular cycling events,” said Samreen Khan.
The US delegates was also highly inspired by the Pakistani females’ participation who are working to promote health and sports in youth.
The parents who were supporting their daughters are also showing interest in GCS activities and appreciating the efforts on individual level for providing the opportunity to young girls.
They were all praise for Capt Samreen’s contribution calling it commendable for the cycling community and explicitly for young women.
I have spent time cycling in northern areas of Pakistan, the US on peaks and in the valleys and cycling has given me confidence, hope and resilience, said Captain Samreen.
Captain Samreen in July 2019 made a record of 280KM peddling from Gilgit to Khunjrab pass (Pak-China boarder) from 5000 to 15000-ft high mountainous KKH (Karakarum highway) in just 5 days. She is also determined to climb every mountain and hurdle by cycling to empower all Pakistani young girls.
