ISLAMABAD – Former chief of army staff (COAS) General retired Qamar Javed Bajwa and ex-DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hameed categorically rejected the JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman’s statement alleging them of orchestrating the ouster of former prime minister Imran Khan.
Sources close to former army generals told a media outlet that Fazlur Rehman should correct his facts first before making the allegations. They said Faiz Hameed had been transferred as DG ISI months before the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan.
Maulana might have forgotten that Gen Faiz was serving as Peshawar corps commander when the motion was tabled, they said.
On the other hand sources close to Gen Bajwa said the former army chief had two meetings with the JUI-F chief, adding that one of them was held when the latter was staging a long march against the PTI government. The sources claimed that the meeting was unpleasant.
The second meeting was occurred when Gen Bajwa met with opposition leaders, including Shehbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto, Akhtar Mengal, at the directives of then PM Imran Khan.
During the meeting when another general was present, both army officials had asked the opposition to withdraw the non-confidence motion and let the PTI complete its term.
