Taskeen Zafar, the outstanding Urdu newscaster of Radio Pakistan, passed away on Sunday after a brief illness in Rawalpindi at the age of 67. Her funeral prayers were held at Eidgah, Lalkurti in the garrison city. A large number of well-known personalities from Radio and TV, her listeners, relatives and members of family attended her funeral prayer.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting AttaullahTarar and Secretary Information ShaheraShahidhave expressed their deep grief and sorrow over the demise of TaskeenZafar. In a statement, Tarar said TaskeenZafar was a talented and experienced newscaster. He termed her death an irreparable loss for the entire media industry.
MsShaheraShahid also expressed condolences with the family of TaskeenZafar and said she was an asset of Radio and PTV and the void created by her demise will never be filled.
TaskeenZafar’s services to Radio Pakistan and PTV will always be remembered, her statement said.
Born in 1957 in Rawalpindi, TaskeenZafar’s distinguished career in broadcasting spanned for more than four decades. She started as an announcer at Radio Pakistan in 1980 and became a prominent voice on the News and Current Affairs Channel. Beyond radio, she was also a familiar face on Pakistan Television, where she read news and hosted music programs.In recognition of her contributions to Pakistani media, TaskeenZafar was given the Presidential Pride of Performance award last year.
