In a daring operation, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar on Thursdays apprehended a fake Deputy Director of FIA red-handed while he was attempting to extort gold from a government official, says in media reports. The accused, identified as SajjadHussain, a motor mechanic by profession, had been impersonating an FIA officer and contacting government officials, claiming to be conducting inquiries against them. Using spoofing technology, he would make calls and send messages, demanding gold and other valuables in exchange for resolving the alleged cases.
During one such instance, Hussain instructed a complainant officer to bring 25 tolas of gold along with receipts to a hotel, where he was accompanied by several fake officials. Alert to the situation, the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar, under the instructions of Deputy Director Saadullah, dispatched a raiding team that swiftly apprehended the accused outside the NAB office in Peshawar.
A thorough search revealed several fake identity cards, a counterfeit FIA service card, an arms license, and two mobile phones in Hussain’s possession. During interrogation, he confessed to utilizing social media to gather information about government officials.
