IT emerged on Saturday through a report presented to theSenate Standing Committee on Interior by Senator Faisal Sabzwari that many operatives of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Al-Qaeda besides Afghan and Indian nationals have all been found to be in possession of Pakistani identity cards.
According to the report fifty to sixty percent employees of NADRA are involved in this corruption.
This issue is extremely troubling for the entire country as officials of the institution tasked with securing Pakistan’s data are busy making fake CNICs for foreign agencies, banned organisations and terrorist outfits for monetary and other gains.
In the past also, such reports appeared that led to seizure and cancellation of fake identity cards yet the issue is far from over.
Since it is a matter of national security, it cannot be overlooked or ignored under any circumstances.
Enemies in possession of fake identity cards indicate that they want to stoke anarchy and chaos in the country.
Pakistan has already suffered a lot because of terrorism and sectarian strife. These hostile elements cannot be allowed to once again disturb law & order situation in the country.
As NADRA has recently launched a new system of verification and renewal of computerised identity cards, the process should immediately be started to trace out those possessing fake identity cards and cancelling them.
And most importantly, time has come for NADRA to restore its credibility by purging the organisation of these black sheep.
Those involved in issuance of fake identity cards must not only been fired from services but strict action should be initiated against them under the law so that in future nobody could dare to commit this sort of crime which is not less than treason.
