‘Explore Astronomy’ to promote scientific curiosity among students

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) in collaboration with the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is launching an initiative ‘Explore Astronomy’ to promote astronomy and Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) education among students.

Under this initiative schools will be supported to purchase telescopes, enabling students to explore celestial objects firsthand and stimulating their interest in space science.

Key highlights of the initiative include promotion of STEM education and inspire the next generation of scientists and explorers. According to an official of the Ministry, the initiative is a significant step towards nurturing scientific curiosity and interest in astronomy among students, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on their learning experience.

Under the guidance of the knowledgeable staff members students will be supervised and trained in use of telescopes. Moreover, initial and ongoing training for staff and students will be held on telescope operation and safety, said the official adding regular observation sessions including during significant astronomical events and the students will maintain an observation log.

The objective of this activity is to inspire passion for astronomy and scientific discovery among students, summed up the official adding it would also foster a generation of curious, informed, and enthusiastic scientists

Meanwhile, to support students who need extra help in language and numeracy skills, the Ministry of Education has decided to conduct remedial classes every Saturday.

This initiative aims at providing additional support to students who require it, ensuring they can catch up with their peers and excel in their studies.

The official said that these remedial classes would be held every Saturday with two classes conducted each Saturday.

Focus will be on language and numeracy skills and it will targeted support students who need extra help.

The objective is to provide a supportive environment where students can improve their language and numeracy skills, building a strong foundation for future success.

The official further informed that the government is launching a character development programmew.e.f August 5 (tomorrow) in all public schools in the federal region.

This comprehensive programme focuses on students, teachers, and parents.

Taleemabad is a proud partner in this initiative and in order to support teachers a Character Development Guide has also been prepared.

According to the official textual material development is also under process and at present, first seven booklets have been developed which will be used in inculcating the skills.
