RAWALPINDI – Retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, who has served as chief of Inter-Services Intelligence, was formally charge-sheeted over his illegal activities.
In a statement, Army’s media wing said proceedings started under Pakistan Army Act against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) on a range of serious charges. The former high-ranking officer has been formally arraigned for engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, and actions that have been detrimental to the safety and interests of the state.
Lt Gen Hameed faces allegations of misusing his authority and government resources, which led to wrongful loss to individuals. The investigation is also focused on potential involvement in fostering agitation and unrest, particularly leading up to the violent events of May 9, 2023.
Authorities are examining his connections with vested political interests and his role in fueling instability, ISPR said.
Army stated that Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) will be granted all legal rights in accordance with the law throughout the process. The investigation continues as Pakistan’s military seeks to address these serious charges against one of its former senior officers.
Faiz Hameed’s Arrest
Pakistan’s former spymaster was arrested in August this year, for alleged misconduct related to a private housing project.
The military initiated the process after a Supreme Court investigation into Hameed’s involvement in land grabbing, corruption, and abuse of power. The charges stem from a complaint by Top City, a development company, which accused him of blackmail and orchestrating raids.
Hameed, who had close ties with former government, was seen as a powerful figure in the military.
