Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, the PTI’s senior leader and former Punjab Chief Minister, on Wednesday approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) to get comprehensive information regarding criminal cases, First Information Reports (FIRs) and pending inquiries against him. The plea, presented by his lawyer Advocate Amir Saeed Rawn, aimed at securing access to all relevant case details and copies thereof. However, Justice Shehbaz Rizvi recused himself from hearing of the case and sent it to Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan to fix it before any other bench.
During the court proceedings, the PTI expressed concerns over his continued detention despite a previous ruling by the court deeming his arrest unlawful. Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, who had been granted bail on February 14 in an initial case related to illegal recruitment, was once again apprehended on September 18 on charges of unauthorized appointments. The relevant authorities claimed to unveil significant findings including the alleged recovery of Rs4.1 million from his residence by law enforcement authorities. In October, a Lahore district and sessions court had granted police Elahi’s two-day physical remand in the case.
