KARACHI – Eid ul Azha is around the corner and Muslims are already excited about Zil Hajj Moon Sighting, as buying animals and Qurbani remain key parts of two major Islamic festivals.
Ahead of Eid, famuos astronomer Dr. Faheem Hashmi predicted that Zil Hajj crescent is likely to be sighted on May 28, 2025. In this case, Eid is expected to be celebrated across Pakistan on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Experts said there is little to no chance of sighting new moon on May 27 Tuesday, as moon’s age at sunset that day will be only 11 hours – too young to be visible. On May 28, ZilHajj moon will be over 35 hours old, making the chances of crescent visibility significantly higher.
He further emphasized that these predictions are based on astro. calculations, and actual date of Eid ul-Azha will depend on official moon sighting announced by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Eid ul Azha
Every year, the festival of Sacrifice is observed on the 10th day of Zil Hajj, the final month of Islamic lunar calendar as it commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command and is marked by special prayers and the ritual of animal sacrifice.
The final confirmation of Eid’s date will come after official moon sighting, which is closely followed by religious authorities and the public across the country.
