According to Kashmir Media Service, the latest data from the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) shows that nearly 10,000 schools lack library facilities, while over 10,000 schools are without ramps and approximately 10,000 schools are devoid of playgrounds.
This glaring deficit poses a significant challenge for the School Education Department (SED) in engaging students in academic and extracurricular activities. The cultivation of a reading culture among students remains severely hindered.
Moreover, the scarcity of playgrounds, compounded by the challenging terrain, deprives children of much-needed physical activity and recreational opportunities. The absence of ramps also raises concerns about accessibility for students with special needs, highlighting issues of inclusivity and accommodation that remain unaddressed.
Locals point fingers at the occupation regime, citing failure and negligence in addressing these fundamental issues plaguing the education system.—KMS
