ISLAMABAD – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Omar Hamid Khan has stepped down on health grounds.
As per the media reports, he has submitted his resignation to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja which has not yet been approved.
The senior bureaucrat who previously served as Special Secretary of Finance, Secretary of National Food Security & Research, and Benazir Income Support Programme remained hospitalized for around one week. He is now under treatment at his residence.
Mr Khan was appointed ECP Secretary in July 2021. Last year, CEC extended his service for one year.
Caretaker Federal Information Minister Murtaza Solangi has contradicted the claims of the resignation of the ECP secretary, saying Mr Khan was ill and under treatment. He prayed for his early recovery. He said that the ECP was working as per normal routine and that general; elections would be held on time.
