The Election Commission of Pakistan has declined to give date for elections in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in their reply submitted in the Peshawar High Court Monday.
According to reports, the commission informed the court that they cannot give a date for elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the governor KP has already announced October 8 for elections in the province.
The ECP issued a notification after the governor’s announcement saying the electoral watchdog had no authority to announce the election date and its only responsibility was holding elections.
Earlier, Peshawar High Court had sought a response from the ECP in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa election case.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, it may be recalled, had approached the Peshawar High Court seeking polls within 90 days after the Supreme Court office returned the KP elections petition with objections.
The petition maintained that the KP governor violated the Constitution by ignoring and disobeying the Supreme Court’s clear instructions regarding the provincial elections schedule.
