Dozens of people lost their lives after a passenger plane of Azerbaijan crashed with 67 people on board in an area of Kazakhstan on Wednesday.

Reports said there were around 20 survivors, who are being provided treatment at hospitals in Aktau city of Kazakhstan.

The Embraer 190 aircraft, with the flight J2-8243 was en route from Azerbaijani capital Baku to Grozny in Russia when it developed a fault, which is yet to be known.

Videos circulating on social media show the plane heading towards the ground for landing at high speed, with its landing gear down.

Later, the plane apparently attempted to land when a massive fire erupted from the spot.

Reports said those on board were mostly Azerbaijani citizens, but there were also some passengers from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
