CTO orders crackdown on rioters, one-wheelers

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar has ordered a strict crackdown against one-wheelers, rioters and motorcyclists without silencers on the New Year night.

The CTO also directed the police to register cases against one-wheelers and their facilitators, She advised parents to keep a close eye on their children during New Year Night. “Those who nag or stalk families during the New Year night will go straight to prison,” the CTO said. The CTO said that a special squad of Lady Traffic Wardens is also readyto be deployed on Mall Road, Jail Road and Main Boulevard Gulberg. “Special checkpoints will be set up at 90 places to stop one-wheeling and rioting on New Year’s night and under-aged drivers of motorcycles and cars will be arrested,” she said.

The CTO said that SP SohailFazil, SP Shahzad Khan, and SP Ikramullah will do full supervision, she added. She further said that the motorcycle-mounted traffic personnel would patrol the Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, GT Road, and Allama Iqbal Road.

The police have completed the security arrangements for New Year Night across the province. 21,413 officers and personnel would perform security duties throughout the Punjab including Lahore. Detectors and thousands of CCTV cameras will also be used. Only in Lahore, 2,373 officers and personnel have been deployed, 271 metal detectors and 236 CCTV cameras will be used, and security arrangements have also been completed in other big cities including Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan.
