The Convener of AJK chapter of Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, has condemned the continued illegal detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and demanded his immediate release.
Syed Faiz Naqshbandi in a statement in Islamabad deplored that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had been under house arrest since August 05, 2019 when the Modi-led Indian government abrogated Kashmir’s special status and imposed military siege and communication blackout in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that the unilateral action was followed by deployment of additional Indian troops in the territory. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, besides being Chairman the Hurriyat forum is also Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, has been deprived of delivering his religious, social and political responsibilities.
Syed Faiz Naqshbandi said that Jammu and Kashmir was UN-recognised disputed territory for which it had passed resolutions which were valid and the Kashmir dispute was on the agenda of the UN Security Council. Kashmiris are demanding implementation of the UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
He said that India had become a serious threat to the regional peace as arbitrary arrests, disappearances and fake encounters staged by India had become a daily routine in IIOJK.
“Condition of Kashmiri detainees in different Indian jails is very pathetic. There is serious threat to the life of Hurriyat leaders, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Masarrat Alam Butt and others languishing in Indian jails,” he pointed out.
Syed Faiz Naqshbandi appealed to the UN and International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to send their teams to visit the jails of India and IIOJK to take stock of the miserable plight of the Kashmiri detainees.—KMS
