Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, joined a tree plantation event on Monday at NEPA (National Institute of Public Administration), planting a sapling alongside children from the Institute of Holistic Rehabilitation and Inclusion. NEPA’s Director General, Dr. Saifur Rahman, and the institute’s CEO, Razaq Pardesi, were also present at the event. Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Hassan Naqvi highlighted the environmental challenges faced by Karachi, emphasizing the need for collective efforts by citizens and institutions to plant and protect trees. He stressed the importance of consistent care and monitoring of saplings to ensure their growth. The commissioner revealed that over 150,000 trees had been planted during the monsoon campaign by Karachi’s administration, with special instructions issued for their upkeep.
He announced plans for a more coordinated and robust tree plantation campaign in March, involving the forest department, government entities, NGOs, and banks. Lauding NEPA’s initiative, Commissioner Naqvi said it contributes significantly to reducing the impact of climate change in the city.
He urged citizens to support these efforts and actively participate in plantation drives. Dr. Saifur Rahman, NEPA’s Director General, shared his vision of integrating his education and experience from Harvard University into fostering public service and community-driven development. Commissioner Naqvi commended NEPA’s role in training public servants to effectively serve the country and its people, expressing hope that their current initiatives would inspire officers to align their work with the nation’s developmental goals.
