Commissioner directs magistrates to keep check on prices

The magistrates of Karachi division deputed to control the prices of essential food items during Ramazan have taken action against profiteers in different districts of the city under the supervision of deputy commissioners on the directives of the commissioner. Iftikhar Shallwani has asked all deputy commissioners to ensure that essential items are available to the consumers on government fixed prices and take stern action against profiteers and hoarders showing no leniency. Magistrates, including additional deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and mukhtiarkars, checked the prices and fined against those who violated the prices of grocery, fixed by the city administration and the prices of fruits and vegetables fixed daily basis by the market committee in coordination with the assistant commissioner Gulzar-e-Hijri. According to the details issued by the commissioner Karachi office, Additional commissioner karachi-2 Dr Waqas Roshan and Assistant Commissioner HQ, Commissioner Karachi office Syeda Jasiah Fatima along with AC Landhi Muhammad Asim Abbasi also visited various areas to check the prices. They visited Babar Market, and fined. Two general stores 8,000 against overcharging on grocery items mainly daal, sugar and basin at Baber market Two Vegetable Vendors were also fined of 2,000* against overcharging on Tomatoes and Onions.by them. In addition to that a spice vendor was also fined Rs 1,000 against overcharging on spices of all sorts. Grace Super Market was also fined of Rs 10,000 against overcharging on grocery items mainly Daal, sugar and flour. As per detail during the campaign against profiteering. Javed Dairy was fined 10,000 against overcharging on milk.
