Art exhibition by FarooqAftab, “Colours of Wasaib” has opened at TheGallery 21, Orchard Road, DHA Phase 2, Islamabad, which will continue through Tuesdsy, December 2024.
The exhibition was curated by Ajab Khan and inaugurated by Dr. SuriyyaChaudhry, Head of Fine Arts at Fatima Jinnah Women University.
The event promises to immerse viewers in the soulful essence of the Seraiki region.
Reflecting on the exhibition at the inaugural session, Dr. SuriyyaChaudhry remarked: “It has been a privilege to engage with FarooqAftab’s exceptional work. His delicate brushwork, refined color palette, and masterful portrayal of light beautifully encapsulate the essence of Wasaib. The heartfelt emotion and profound connection to his native soil are evident in every piece, showcasing his effortless command over both technique and subject matter.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. FarrukhSeir said TheGallery 21 is committed to providing opportunities for emerging local artists from all backgrounds, particularly those who face challenges in gaining exposure due to their lack of connections or support.
“By offering a platform for voices that often go unheard, the gallery fosters creativity, inclusivity, and cultural appreciation within the art community,” he said.
Wasaib, a term rich with meaning, refers to the lifestyle, traditions, and culture of the Seraiki belt—FarooqAftab’s homeland. Through his brushstrokes, Aftab captures the raw beauty of this land, its resilience, and its deep connection to nature. The boats depicted in his artwork stand as powerful symbols: vessels of daily life, carriers of stories, and reflections of endurance. These boats, unique in their structure, navigate both water and time—much like the artist himself, whose journey is rooted in his soil yet inspired to reach beyond.
Each painting in “Colours of Wasaib” resonates with the fragrance of its origins. It reflects a land that shaped the artist’s past, nurtures his present, and will forever define his future. This exhibition is not just a visual delight but also an emotional experience—an opportunity to explore the artist’s connection to his heritage and his unwavering love for his roots.
