ISLAMABAD – Severe cold wave prevailed in Islamabad on Thursday as the temperature dropped 01°C below the freezing point.
Cold waves will continue to persist in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan.
Under these weather conditions, mainly cold and dry weather will continue to persist in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan on Thursday night and the next two days.
Very cold weather is likely in upper parts of the country. Moderate to dense fog (in patches) is likely in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during night and morning hours. Frost is likely in Islamabad, Pothohar region, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during morning hours.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between -01°C to 01°C on Friday and -02°C to 0°C on Saturday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 04-06°C on Friday and 03-05°C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Extremely cold weather prevailed in hilly areas. Fog persisted in places of north/east Punjab.
Leh remained the coldest place in Pakistan where the temperature dropped 11°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Skardu was recorded at -09°C, Ziarat -08°C, Quetta, Gilgit and Gopis -07°C, Astore, Bagrote and Dalbandin at -06°C.
In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at -01°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 91 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 04°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 92 per cent.
