RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday condemned the brutal murder of a Sri Lanka citizen by a mob in Sialkot.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), COAS termed the cold blooded murder of Priyantha Kumara extremely condemnable and shameful. Extra judicial vigilantism cannot be condoned at any cost, the army chief said.

COAS directs all out support to civil administration to arrest perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the killing of Kumara in eastern Pakistan.

Taking to Twitter, the premier said:  “The horrific vigilante attack on factory in Sialkot & the burning alive of Sri Lankan manager is a day of shame for Pakistan”.

“I am overseeing the investigations & let there be no mistake all those responsible will be punished with full severity of the law. Arrests are in progress,” he added.

The Sri Lankan citizen named Priyantha Kumara worked as an export manager at a private factor located on Wazirabad road, Sialkot. A mob comprising factory workers tortured him to death over alleged blasphemy. The violent mob had later set her body on fire.
