SIALKOT – A foreign national working at a factory in Sialkot was tortured to death by a charged mob on Friday over alleged blasphemy.

The brutal incident took place on Wazirabad Road where the employees of the factory went violent and killed manager. The victim hailed from Sri Lanka while further details about him have not been shared by authorities.

The violent mob also vandalised the factory and blocked traffic. Later, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot to disperse people.

A senior police officer said that the traffic on Wazirabad road was resumed after successful talks with a visibly angry group of protesters.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the death of the Sri Lankan national.

Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has also taken notice of the incident.

“I am extremely shocked at the horrific Sialkot incident. I have instructed IG Police to thoroughly investigate it. No one is allowed to take law in their hands. Rest assured, individuals involved in this inhumane act will not be spared,” he wrote on Twitter.
