CM expresses dismay over inapt facilities in govt hospitals

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed his annoyance over inappropriate health facilities and non-provision of medicines to patients at Government Teaching Hospital Shahdara (GTHS).

During visit of the hospital on Tuesday, the caretaker chief minister observed the situation at various wards during which patients, attendants lodged dozens of complaints besides showing him the bills of the medicines purchased outside the hospital.

Noting the situation, Mohsin Naqvi expressed his discontent and said that he can never expect of such misconduct with the patients at a government hospital.

He directed the provincial minister Specialized Healthcare and Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University to reach the GTHS and observe the situation themselves.

The caretaker chief minister was also accompanied by Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Deputy Commissioner Lahore Rafia Haider during the visit.

Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi has sought a report from Commissioner Bahawalpur about laborers’ death during the sewage line cleaning in Rahim Yar Khan. He has instructed to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter and emphasized that appropriate action must be taken against those found responsible for the negligence in ensuring safety arrangements. Mohsin Naqvi has also expressed his deep sympathies and condolences to the grieving families who have lost their loved ones.

Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) to assess the medical facilities provided to cardiac patients.

He spoke to patients and their attendants in the emergency wards to gather information about the available medical services, with a specific focus on the availability of bypass and angiography facilities. During his inspection, Mohsin Naqvi took note of the shortage of angioplasty guiding catheters at the PIC and directed the health secretary to ensure their availability. Furthermore, the chief minister also inspected the primary angiography facilities for cardiac patients and observed the arrangements made for maintaining cleanliness. He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of doctors and paramedics who continue to provide exemplary service despite the overwhelming demand. Mohsin Naqvi expressed his commitment to further enhancing the treatment facilities and mentioned that the health secretary has been directed to address the shortage of angioplasty guiding catheters in the ICU.

Talking to the media on the occasion, he said that the flyover would soon be opened for traffic. “The government is trying to mitigate the sufferings of people,” the chief minister said.

He further said no new tax had been levied in the budget, while whatever taxes were there on the IT sector had also been abolished completely.
