Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, while presiding over a meeting on Thursday on Village Electrification and Gasification at the Chief Minister’s House on Thursday, directed the Energy Department to work with DISCOs and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).
The work of supplying electricity and gas to the villages should be expedited through close links.
He said that we have provided necessary details and funds to the villagers so the work should be started and where the work is going on the pace of work should be expedited in the wider interest of the villagers.
The meeting was attended by Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh, Chairman P&D Muhammad Waseem, Finance Secretary Hassan Naqvi, DG Power Azizullah Memon and DG Oil & Gas. Imtiaz Sheikh told the meeting that villages with a population of 100 villages, which are located within four kilometers of the existing 11 KV and one kilometer away from the HT lines, qualify for electricity.
Has selected 1124 villages for power supply out of which DISCOs has prepared an estimated cost of 638 villages amounting to Rs. 1.473 million.
DISCOs preparing estimates for the remaining 486 villages, which could be around Rs 966 million.
Thus, approximately Rs.2.439 million will be used for 1,124 villages. The Sindh Chief Minister said that he would provide the required funds but the work of power supply should start.
The chief minister said that his government had released Rs 6.5 billion for gasification of 961 villages from 2008-09 to 2012-13. The Chief Minister Sindh was informed that the work of gasification of 860 villages has been completed at a cost of Rs. 5.1 billion.
