CISSS team visit Energy Department to develop better understanding Pay visit to Iqra University

A delegation from Center for International Strategic Studies Sindh (CISSS) led by Associate Director Research Dr Saba Sahar along with Research Officer Abdul Samad, Research Officer Areesha Anwer, Research Assistant Jawad Ali Shah and Research Assistant Saad Aalam paid an introductory CISSS outreach visit to the Energy Department, Government of Sindh. They held a brief meeting with Secretary Energy, Abu Bakar Ahmed Madani.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce CISSS which is the first think tank established at the provincial level. Dr Sahar briefed Secretary Energy about the vision of CISSS which aims to develop a better understanding of national and provincial issues. Dr Sahar informed him that CISSS also focuses on energy related issues and climate change.

Secretary Energy informed Team CISSS about the contribution of Sindh in the overall energy generation in Pakistan.

He mentioned various projects under Energy Department and highlighted that 64% of Pakistan’s total gas is produced in Sindh. He further noted that Thar Coal has 175 billion tons of coal reserves and thus has the potential to mitigate the energy crisis of the country.

At the end of the discussion, Associate Director Research Dr Sahar invited Secretary Energy to visit CISSS for future collaboration.

Meanwhile, The Center for International Strategic Studies Sindh (CISSS) paid an introductory outreach visit to Iqra University (Main Campus) Karachi on 20 July 2022. The delegation comprising of Research Officer Ms. Safia Malik, Research Officer Mr. Tarique Ahmed Abro and Research Assistant Mr. Zeeshan Hyder was headed by Director Research-I Mr. Aftab Hussain. Team CISSS was received by Hunaid H. Lakhani (Chairman Iqra University).

The purpose of the visit was to introduce CISSS to Iqra University and discuss the areas of mutual interest and the scope of future collaboration between the two organisations. Mr. Aftab Hussain briefed the host about the aims, objectives and vision of CISSS and apprised him of the activities that CISSS has performed so far.

The Director also presented CISSS introductory booklet along with the CISSS booklet on “Dynamics of Strategic Stability and Nuclear Deterrence in 21st Century South Asia” to the Chairman. Mr. Lakhani was highly appreciative of Team CISSS’s efforts and assured his full support and cooperation in the future as well.

Team CISSS was given a guided tour of the premises including the Library, auditoriums, and departmental visit.
