Chinese Consulate provides Rs4m for PU Oriental College

The Chinese Consulate in Lahore has given a grant of Rs 4 million for some renovation work of Punjab University’s Oriental College.

In this regard, Chinese Consul General Mr Zhao Shiren visited Punjab University and called on Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood at his office. On this occasion, Oriental College Principal Prof Dr Nabeela Rehman, Director Sports Prof Dr Zaffar Iqbal Butt, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, Additional Treasurer Rao Muhammad Tahir Rafique and Chief Engineer Faiz-ul-Hassan Sipra were present. In the meeting, the Chinese delegation expressed interest in equipping the Punjab University Department of Sports, especially tennis, basketball, badminton and swimming pool with modern facilities. The delegation expressed their satisfaction and happiness over the ongoing educational activities in the Punjab University Confucius Institute. The participants in the delegation thanked Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood and reiterated their determination to promote relations between Punjab University and Chinese universities in the future. A national seminar in connection with the Pakistan Day celebrations was organized by Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) on Sunday.

Eco-Cultural Institute Tehran, Iran DrSaad S. Khan, Director National Institute of Historical & Cultural Research, Islamabad DrSajidMehmoodAwan, Director PSC Prof DrNaumanaKiran, Chairman, Department of History & Civilization Studies BahauddinZakariya University Prof Dr Muhammad Shafique, faculty members and students attended the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, DrSaad S. Khan shed light on Political Struggle of Begum Jinnah. He described about the early life, family, marriage with Quaid-i-Azam, political activism and anti-colonialism of Mrs. Jinnah.

DrSajidAwan, delivered the lecture on Recurrent Political & Constitutional Problems of Pakistan. He threw light on the constitutional legacy of Pakistan and proceeded to Post Independence constitutional experiences. He discussed in details the recurrent constitutional issues faced by Pakistan since its inception.

Prof DrNaumanaKiran welcomed the guests and introduced the audience with the theme of the national seminar.Punjab University has awarded PhD degrees to 10 scholars in different subjects after approval of thesis. According to details, Sitara Nasar D/o Nasar Saeed was awarded PhD degree in the subject of Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology).
