The Child Protection and Welfare Bureau rescued 32 minors from an illegal orphanage located in Lahore’s Gujumata area.

According to the officials, prior to the rescue, the team inspected a makeshift orphanage in Multan Town, where children were found living in appalling conditions of neglect and exploitation.

The bureau’s team successfully relocated all 32 children, comprising 18 boys and 14 girls, to the Child Protection Bureau Lahore, where they will receive proper care and attention. Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against the head of the unlawful orphanage, Nageena Qamar, under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2004 sections 20A and 34.

Chairperson of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Punjab and Member of the Punjab Assembly, Sarah Ahmed, informed Express that according to the law, it is mandatory for institutions providing shelter to orphaned, destitute, and vulnerable children to be registered with the bureau. She emphasized that any unregistered institutions are subject to legal action.
