Concerned Citizens Alliance (CCA) in a meeting held on Monday at PMA House and attended by the Coordinator Dr Mirza Ali Azhar and members including Professor Tipu Sultan, Mr Azhar Jamie, Mr Nazim Haji, Ms Tehseen Fatema, Mr Abdul Hameed Dagia, Mr Iqbal Qasmi, Mr Azhar Naqvi, Dr. M. Fazal Noor and others showed great concern about the seriously rising street crime in the metropolitan.

According to the confirmed report 35 innocent lives are lost in the first quarter of the year and more than 2000 people got injured, mostly gunshot, during the process.

The Alliance believes that the number of injured may be far more then reported as most of the people avoid because they think that they are not going to get any relief or good response from the law enforcement authorities (police). On top of it, a report circulated in the media that two probable target killers were nabbed by LEAs who were reportedly  hired and paid by someone from abroad to kill a doctor. This news sends a wave of quiver in the spine of doctors’ fraternity as very recently a non-Muslim eye specialist was killed in the city. The doctors are still mourning the target killing of 158 doctors in the past. The nation cannot afford more loss of Massihas as our healthcare system is already  deficient and continuous brain drain.

The Alliance discussed the issue at length and reached a conclusion that the basic responsibility to provide security to the people lies with police. Unfortunately the performance of the police has never been satisfactory and at times the people belonging to the police department were found hand in gloves with perpetrators of these crimes. The law and order situation is deteriorating with every passing day and actions to control this situation are nowhere to be found. The meeting unanimously decided to protest and demand from the government to put all efforts to curb this menace and save the life of poor innocent citizens.

The participants of the meeting also decided to have consultative meetings the higher authorities including Core Commander, DG Rangers, IG Police and off course the political leadership like Chief Minister, Home Minister and other relevant departments.
