The Islamabad police on Saturday registered a case against the administration of Jamia Hafsa for hoisting Emarat-e-Islami’s (Taliban-ruled Afghanistan) flag over the seminary building.
The police also announced included Lal Masjid cleric and his fellows in the Fourth Schedule for harassing/threatening the police.
The Sector G-7 seminary students had hoisted the flag a month earlier too but the latest pictures of the fla hoisted afain went viral on social media after which police and the Islamabad Capital Territory Authority (ICTA) Administration spurred into action.
A heavy contingent of police reached Jamia Hafsa after female students of the seminary hoisted the flag and a large number of students of the Lal Masjid led by its chief cleric Maulana Aziz reached the spot to express their solidarity with the Jamia Hafsa female students.
In a video Maulana Aziz could be seen snubbing the police and urging them to quit their jobs and stop supporting an ‘un-Islamic’ government.
In anther post, it could be seen that Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz was sitting outside the seminary carrying a weapon.
A day earlier Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat had stated that no one would be allowed to hoist/wave flag of the Emarat-e-Islami.
Moments after the DC’s statement, heavy contingent of police equipped with tear gas, batons and anti-riot equipment arrived at the scene.
After prolonged negotiations, they (the Jamia Hafsa admin) removed the Afghan Taliban flag from its rooftop.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqat while talking to media had clarified that hoisting the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan flag in Islamabad would not be allowed and action would be taken against culpable.
Four years ago, Maulana Abdul Aziz, after being granted bail in two separate cases, made a statement in 2016 to pardon all the characters of the 2007 Lal Masjid operation, including former military president Pervez Musharraf.
While talking to Pakistan Observer, a senior official of the district government on Saturday clarified Maulana Aziz’s name was already in the Fourth Schedule but they had made it public now.
His (Maulana Aziz’s) accomplices names have also been included in the schedule, he further said.
