EVER since the PTI government came into power, residents of the capital were looking towards the new government as to what steps it has envisaged to the development of the city and finally Special Assistant to PM on Capital Development Authority Affairs Ali Nawaz Khan appeared before the media and presented a list of projects to be executed in Islamabad.
We are confident that these projects will not remain only on paper but the Special Assistant, who himself has been elected on the capital’s seat, will take personal interest to ensure their fast track implementation. We really want Ali Nawaz Khan to prove himself as a doer and live up to the expectations of the people. Especially the road infrastructure of the capital has rundown over the last few years which needs to be rehabilitated besides roads need to be expanded and new ones need to be constructed to meet the requirements of rising population both in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. On Islamabad Expressway, which is facing long delays, the Special Assistant gave good news that it will be executed in two phases. The first phase is related to the construction of PWD underpass worth Rs 33 million and Korang Bridge worth Rs 845 million which will begin soon as the tender will be called next month. Since the mushroom growth of the housing societies on both sides of the Expressway, it has become all the more important to complete its expansion up to Rawat at the earliest, as this road is also an important link to other cities. Similarly, the I.J. Principal road needs to be totally refurbished given the burden of heavy traffic on it. The residents of the twin cities are also looking towards as to when practical work is started on Nullah Leh Expressway. Quality must be ensured in the execution of all these projects. Present government and Ali Khan Nawaz specially deserve appreciation for giving special emphasis to the rural development of the capital and allocating Rs 1.50 billion for this purpose. This amount should be used for the improvement of infrastructure as well as provision of basic civic amenities there.
