KARACHI – A major update for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) beneficiaries as all recipients will get payments in their bank accounts.
Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) made announcement of opening of bank accounts for beneficiaries in a meeting of National Assembly’s Poverty Reduction Committee, chaired by Mir Ghulam Ali, which focused on enhancing the delivery of financial assistance to underprivileged communities.
BISP officials briefed NA committee, that over 1.25lac female beneficiaries are facing difficulties due to non-operational thumb impressions. To address the issue, BISP recipients will get special cards.

Officials discussed challenges of transferring funds to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, highlighting that while there are 17,000 bank branches across Pakistan, but most of them are in urban areas, causing difficulties for those living in rural regions.
The committee members also suggested continuing distribution of funds through Point of Sale (POS) agents while Chairman Mir Ghulam Ali stressed need for an automated system for the Benazir Income Support Program, stating that any process involving human interaction often leads to complications.
To further streamline the system, BISP Secretary announced new project for three months and is expected to pave the way for future account openings for beneficiaries.
BISP officials also mulled working on another model that will enable beneficiaries to withdraw funds from other banks, aiming for a seamless and inclusive financial system for all BISP beneficiaries.
