ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have slammed fabricated news about rift between Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, saying an apolitical woman should not be dragged into politics.
The reactions come after a local publication in its report claimed that the first lady was currently living at a friend’s place in Lahore after developing differences with the prime minister.
“Trouble seems to be brewing on the home front. It’s no secret that Her Holiness has bolted. She’s said to be sulking in Lahore, at the home of a friend, also known as the Front Woman … Our mole says there have been more than a few flaming rows on various issues,” reads an excerpt from the report.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib talking to media said that the government was well aware of elements running such smear campaigns, which have no moral grounds, against PM Khan’s wife.
He reiterated that the first lady has no connection to politics at all.
Without naming anyone, Habib said that these are same elements who had launched such campaigns against late former prime minister Benazi Bhutto.
Senator Faisal Javed Khan in a tweet termed such reports “baseless, false, fabricated news and rumors”. He said that second-rate politicians have been target Imran Khan’s family and his personal life in such campaigns.

Reports said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has also expressed dismay over smear campaign targeting him and Bushra Bibi.
The premier expressed his view while chairing a Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of PTI in Islamabad on Monday.
