ISLAMABAD- An Anti-Terrorism Court in the federal capital on Tuesday set November 21 as the date for formal indictment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President and former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi in a case registered with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station.
Judge Raja Jawad Abbas was hearing the case as a duty judge as Judge Abu Al-Hassanat Zulqarnain was on leave.
Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi appeared before the court along with his counsel Sardar Abdul Razzaq. As the hearing commenced, the judge made some light-hearted remarks, saying that there are duty judges like the caretaker politicians among the politicians, so today he was the duty judge.
“Whether the date will be fixed today?,” the judge asked.
On it, Advocate Sardar Abdul Razzaq said that the scheduled date for the proceedings was indeed today but requested permission for a private consultation between Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and his legal team inside the courtroom.
At this, the court allowed Elahi to engage in a private discussion with his lawyers within the court chamber.
Later, the court fixed November 21 as the date for the formal indictment of Chaudhry Pervez Elahi in the case filed at the Sihala Police Station.
Talking to the reporters, the PTI president underscored the importance of addressing grievances within their own ranks before delving into other matters. He pointed out the numerous injustices faced by the public, compelling them to take extreme measures.
“Neslon Mandela who has arrived first should ask his brother what injustices have been done to the people,” said Elahi while coming down hard upon the Sharif brothers. He said the people were committing the suicide.
He also highlighted the challenges faced by the public, including difficulties in paying utility bills, the disappearance of job opportunities, and even instances of educators facing wrath of the authorities concerned. He pledged that those responsible for these issues would be held accountable in upcoming elections.
