The acting Minister of Justice, Abdul Hakim Sharai, said that the association of defense lawyers has turned into a directorate in order to address the complaints and challenges in the country.

An examination was held to license the defense lawyers. According to Sharai, 580 people participated in the examination.

“This association become a directorate, within the format of the Justice Ministry. The move aimed to address the complaints of our defense lawyers,” he said. Sharai said that the defense lawyers will be active independently.

“The defense lawyer will be independent in his work, he has the license and can talk with his client and there is no pressure,” Sharai said.

This comes as the participants of the examination called for transparency to be ensured.
“We call for a transparent examination, and those who are qualified, should succeed,” said Mohammad Faisal Barialai, an applicant.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the licenses of 1,300 defense lawyers have been renewed.
