In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, APHC leader and the Chairman of Democratic Political Movement, Syed Bashir Andrabi, has strongly denounced the illegal arrest of religious leaders and scholars by Indian police in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police arrested senior Hurriyat leader and noted religious preacher, Maulana Sarjan Barkati, in Shopian district, today. Earlier, three prominent religious leaders, Maulana Abdul Rasheed Dawoodi, Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri and Abdul Majeed Dar Almadni, were arrested on Thursday and booked under black law, Public Safety Act, by the occupation authorities.
Syed Bashir Andrabi in a statement issued in Srinagar said India has illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and it cannot tolerate when the Hurriyat leaders, including religious scholars, show the real face of New Delhi to the Kashmiri people. He said that the arrests of renowned scholars and religious leaders including Sarjan Barkati, Abdul Rasheed Dawoodi, Mushtaq Ahmad Veri and Abdul Majeed Dar Almadani cannot intimidate the Kashmiris into submission. Indian rulers are mistaken if they think that through such brutal tactics they will be able to suppress the Kashmiris’ voice for right to self-determination, he said.
