IN a meeting of top military leaders on Tuesday, the Army reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, making it clear that no one is exempt from scrutiny or accountability. Chaired by General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the Corps Commanders Conference emphasized that the Army is a disciplined institution, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and loyalty to the state and institution.
History bears testimony to the fact that the Pakistan Army always struggled to defend ideological, geographical and economic frontiers of the country. It frustrated designs of both external and internal enemies and provided unmatched support to the civil administration in overcoming numerous challenges and crises. This is all the more evident during the tenure of General Syed Asim Munir, who believes in meritocracy, accountability and extending institutional support to the Government in the process of reforms and neutralizing forces of evil. Some recent moves by the Pakistan Army effectively countered the negative propaganda by some vested interests about the internal system of accountability in the institution. These developments confirmed, once again, that the COAS, who himself has a clean reputation, believes in across-the-board accountability. Similarly, under his leadership, the Army is committed to rooting out the menace of terrorism and extremism in the country and action against anti-state elements has been accelerated in the wake of renewed surge in terrorist activities, especially in Balochistan and KP. The Army carried out successful operations against all sorts of terrorist networks in the past and with the support of the people and other arms of the state, it will surely succeed in taking the counter-terrorism campaign to its logical conclusion.
