While the country is faced with an unprecedented calamity in the form of flash flood which has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands of families, Pakistan Army is again being seen as leading rescue and relief efforts to minimise sufferings of the flood affected people.
Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa is himself monitoring whole situation and called Commander Balochistan on Saturday directing him to take all measures to assist Balochistan government in relief and rehabilitation efforts.
He said the Army resources be utilised to help affected population and restore critical communication infrastructure as an immediate temporary measure.
Pakistan Army has always risen to the occasion and the way it is engaged now in flood situation has further raised its respect in the eyes of a common man.
Being a disciplined and professional set-up, we value our armed forces yet it is deplorable that certain political elements recently unleashed a propaganda campaign on social media for their own vested interests against such an important institution and its leadership.
But it is also a fact that nothing can create a wedge between armed forces and the people.
Those running this smear campaign are doing no favour to the country rather inadvertently supporting enemy’s agenda that never misses any opportunity to target our armed forces.
As the FIA has discovered several accounts spreading fake news about Pakistan Army and its top leadership, it is time to take strict action against them as per law.
It is also for the political leadership to rein in their supporters and stop targeting state institutions. Strong institutions are vital for security and stability of the country.
