Sindh High Court has indefinitely postponed the hearing of appeals challenging the acquittal of former SSP Malir Rao Anwar and other accused in the Naqeebullah murder case. The delay occurred as neither the appellant’s counsel nor the defense lawyers appeared before the court. The appeal was filed by Naqeebullah’s brother, Alam Sher, who contends that the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) ignored critical evidence while acquitting Rao Anwar and other accused. The appellant has urged the court to overturn the ATC’s decision, arguing that the lack of evidence cited in the acquittal was unjust. The appeal stresses the need for a retrial, claiming that vital proof was overlooked during the earlier proceedings. In 2023, the ATC acquitted Rao Anwar and 18 others in the Naqeebullah murder case, citing insufficient evidence. This decision has been strongly contested by the victim’s family, who believe justice has not been served. The case, which garnered significant public attention, remains unresolved, with the victim’s family continuing their legal battle for accountability.
