Sardar Abdul Rahim, the Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) Sindh and the Information Secretary of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), has stated that more than half of the current parliament is against any constitutional amendments, and any changes made through a minority vote or unconstitutional means will not be accepted. He urged the government to refrain from interfering in the workings of the Supreme Court and to allow all institutions to operate independently within their designated boundaries.
Sardar Rahim further emphasized that even if the government considers a decision made by the Supreme Court’s majority bench to be unconstitutional, the interpretation of that decision lies solely with the Supreme Court. He expressed these views while addressing party workers. Discussing Sindh’s ongoing issues, Sardar Rahim highlighted that external forces were responsible for harming Sindh’s interests in the past.
However, he expressed regret that, for the past sixteen years, Sindh’s own rulers have been working to irreparably damage the province’s core interests. He emphasized the importance of the Indus River’s water to the people of Sindh, calling it a matter of life and death. He explained that although the people of Sindh reluctantly accepted the 1992 water distribution agreement, several attempts have been made since then to steal Sindh’s water. Sindh has consistently raised objections to these attempts, but now a conspiracy is being hatched at the presidential level to control the flow of Sindh’s water through the will of the Chairman of the Indus River System Authority.
Sardar Rahim expressed concern over the new proposal, stating that the IRSA Chairman will now be appointed solely at the discretion of the Prime Minister, which means that the lifeblood of Sindh will rest in the hands of one person. He declared that PML-F and GDA would never allow the people of Sindh to sign off on such a “death warrant.” Sardar Abdul Rahim reaffirmed the commitment of both PML-F and GDA to continue their struggle to protect Sindh’s interests. He warned both the federal and provincial governments that no one will be allowed to infringe on Sindh’s rights.
