British government is set to roll out all-electric Tran-Bus which is said to be energy-efficient than buses and cars, offering a sustainable transportation solution in the bustling city of London.
These electric tram buses are set to hit the streets of London this summer, city’s mayor Sadiq Khan confirmed. These urban rail transit, dubbed ieTrams, will operate on route 358 in south-east London, connecting Orpington with Crystal Palace.
Sadiq Khan announced that buses, which were initially scheduled for an early 2023 debut, will now be in service later this summer, in another step toward zero emissions goal,

In the first phase, at least 20 teams will use pantograph technology for rapid charging at both ends of their route. This arm-like device attaches to the bus roof, delivering a quick, high-power charge in about 10 minutes, enabling the buses to run throughout the day without needing overnight charging.
These public transport vehicles feature large windows and covered wheels, considered safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Also, sliding doors and a low floor design aim to enhance accessibility and minimize “dwell time” at bus stops.
The new electric tram trial aims to maintain service levels with fewer buses and enhance passenger experience. TfL’s fleet includes over 1,400 zero-emission buses, with all others meeting or exceeding Euro VI emission standards.
