Ali Nasir Rizvi assumes charge as new IG Islamabad police

ISLAMABAD — Ali Nasir Rizvi, a BS 20 officer of the Pakistani police service, assumed charge as the new inspector general of police in Islamabad on Monday, the Islamabad Police said in a statement.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the Islamabad Capital Police stated that the newly appointed chief visited the Martyrs Memorial for Fateha before assuming charge.

The new Islamabad IG took charge of office 22 days after his appointment notification was issued, as a dispute about his appointment continued between the interior ministry and Punjab.

Rizvi was appointed after former IG Police Akbar Nasir Khan relinquished the charge on March 30. The new IG assumed office after the Punjab government relieved him.

He was previously deputy inspector general operations in Lahore and belonged to the 31st Common batch of the PSP. He has also served as an assistant superintendent of police, superintendent of police, senior superintendent of police, city police chief, and deputy inspector general in nine Punjab districts.

Ali Nasir Rizvi has also served in Balochistan.

Rizvi’s appointment was delayed due to a dispute between the interior ministry and Punjab, but he finally assumed office 22 days after his appointment notification was issued.

He replaces Akbar Nasir Khan, the former IG of the police. Rizvi, who belongs to the 31st Common batch of the PSP, was previously the deputy inspector general of operations in Lahore and has served in various other positions, including assistant superintendent of police, superintendent of police, senior superintendent of police, city police chief, and deputy inspector general in nine Punjab districts. He has also served in Balochistan.
