ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed independent lawmaker Ali Amin Gandapur on Friday was elected  chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During the KP Assembly session, Gandapur bagged 90 votes whereas PML-N candidate Ibadullah Khan secured 16 votes. He has become the 22nd elected chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In his victory speech, the PTI leader demanded the immediate release of Imra Khan. He also thanked the PTI founder for trusting him for the KP CM post.

Reiterating his party’s stance that the PTI mandate was stolen, he said the chief election commissioner (CEC) failed to conduct transparent polls in the country. He demanded the resignation of CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja over his failure to hold free and fair elections.

The newly-elected KP chief minister urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to hold a judicial inquiry into May 9 episode.
